ISLANDS OF SIRINHAEM

In 1998, the Alagoan Sugar Mill owner, Luis Antonio de Andrade Bezerra, bought the Trapiche Sugar Mill. He began a violent process to disoccupy the Islands of Sirinhaém, Pernambuco, N.E. Brasil. Of the 53 families that lived on the Islands for generations, only Nazaré and her sister, Graça, with their families, resist the sugar mill´s onslaught.
